SOCIOBIBLOG: DECENTRALIZED BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SHARING THROUGH SOCIAL LINKS

Paper abstract: Sharing bibliographic information is important in a research community. We propose a decentralized way for this over the social network of researchers by aggregation of information through one’s social links. We have experimentally verified that highly relevant information can be obtained from direct social links. Blogs provide an easy platform for such social information sharing. Semantic blogging can enhance this with standard structure needed for bibliographic information. We have implemented a semantic blogging prototype called SocioBiblog for this purpose. It uses the SWRC ontology for publication metadata and aggregates publications from the social network neighborhood and co-authors of each researcher. RSS aggregation has been extended to handle the embedded publication metadata. The aggregated collections may be searched and filtered flexibly by metadata criteria. The results can be redistributed as new feeds which can further be integrated, mixed and reused by other systems. A decentralized ecosystem is formed where each unit can publish, aggregate and redistribute information.
Keywords: Semantic blog, bibliographic metadata, RSS aggregation, social network.
