HOW AWARE ARE PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN TO THE DANGERS OF THE INTERNET?
Author(s): Derek O’ Reilly
Paper abstract: As technology becomes increasingly available and progressively more important in our daily lives, the internet is being increasingly adopted into primary schools. The internet can open up a whole new world for primary school children, giving them access to vast amounts of useful information at the touch of a button. However, primary school children can be targeted by a wide number of internet risks, such as exposure to illegal or harmful material, receiving unsolicited messages and being lured into a physical encounter. Yet primary school children do not appear to be well prepared to deal with the various dangers that their internet related activities can place them in. This paper examines the various dangers that are associated with primary school children using the internet and it evaluates the level of understanding that primary school children have regarding these dangers.
